Little Henry

Last Friday I had to make a horrible decision. Our little "H" had suffered his 3rd stroke in under a year. He was a shell of the neat little dog he used to be. This stroke had left him blind in his left eye, left ear sagging and an almost non-functioning left front leg. He could no longer go up and down the stairs, he was running into walls and he was spending all his time hiding under something. For those of you who knew "H" when he was "H" it would break your heart. For us, the decline was gradual over the past year. But, this time the vet said he wouldn't get any better...

So, I chose to have him put to sleep peacefully instead of continuing to watch him struggle and deteriorate over time. The vet said it was only a matter of time until he'd have another stroke...He was only 6. He was privately cremated, and we should be getting his ashes any day.

I look at this picture of Henry and it makes me cry. This was taken when Henry, Hannah and I drove to Dallas to spend a few weeks with Jason. We took the puppies hiking one day, you can see the attitude he always had in this picture. He knew he was precious and awesome! I loved the smile on his face, he almost always looked like he was smiling. We haven't seen an "H" smile in almost a year!

My little "H"...born in Utah, raised in Iowa and Colorado. Well traveled with me, I used to take him with me every time I flew or drove anywhere. He survived a dognapping three years ago after some crazy lady stole him. He was gone for a month, but eventually found by the police. He was so stubborn that 3 strokes couldn't do him in...but in the end I couldn't let him suffer.

So, we love you "H". We miss you and hope that you're somewhere happy, healthy, and have found someone to throw your ball!
